As the book goes on, the storyline gets more and more interesting. There are more points of rising action that lead to the climax of the book. For example, on page 155, when this girl named Beth and Macie are fighting about Leslie Gatlin's death, "I stood up and wiped my nose with the back of my hand. 'You two will never get away with this,' I said softly. Macie laughed. 'Oh dear, sweet Beth. We already have.'" At this point in the book some people are starting to suspect who may have influenced Leslie's suicide. In this situation, Beth is accusing Macie and her friend of not directly killing Leslie, but bullying her to an extreme level that it would make Leslie feel very depressed. Beth knows that Macie;s intentions were to kill Leslie, but I don't think that Macie will never admit to that because her character is someone who is very controlling and always makes sure that
everything is her way. This book is becoming better and better as I keep
reading. It's all about rumors, secrets and lies which adds so much more
exciting drama to the story. I hope that the end of the book will live up to my
expectations.

My book, Waiting for You, is about high school and
friendships as well. My book has friendships breaking and rumors and lies
spreading, which create a whole mess between girls as does your book. Your book
sounds very good and I would love to read it and compare the similarities it
shares to my book, even though I can tell it has several

ReplyDeleteMy book, Eleanor & Park relate to your book because the main character Eleanor dad also dies. Like Sidney's mom Eleanor mom marries Richie Eleanor mean step dad that hates Eleanor for every little thing she does. Richie is also selfish and he kicked Eleanor out of the house for over a year and hes not afraid to do it again. Your book sounds very good and I will probably read it and enjoy it!
DeleteThe book that you are reading reminded me of my book Catch Rider. It is about a girl Sidney and her dad had died when she was kind of young and now her mom lives with her boyfriend Donald. Donald wants to move to a different state but Sidney cant leave all her horses and uncle Wayne behind so now Sidney is deciding if she want to live with her uncle or move,

This book is about the family named the Manannan's, they have a secret. They are witches. And when there uncle goes missing Darren and Jackie try to find him. This book feels like most other fantasy book that I have read, were the main characters find out that there family has somthing that makes them special. I am not saying that the book is bad, but I feel like I know what is going to happen. It has the same kind of plot structure as almost every other fantasy book that I have read. One great example is on page 77 were they learn their power is to cast their shadow and try to see card that they hide in other rooms and they both get them right. I feel that this would have been more interesting if they had had one of them be able to use the power and the other not. But that is just my opinion. All and all , I think that it is a good book so far.
This seems like a good book, I should read it sometime
DeleteI think our books are similar because the main characters in our books are going to have to fight to help the ones they love.
DeleteThat seems like a fantastic book. The double life thing sounds good in that it probably makes for some interesting situations I think that one of these conflicts would probably be the inciting action.

The Scourge of God by William Dietrich is a book set in Ancient Rome that has every characteristic a great book has. It has a deep plot, conflict and tons of imagery to make you feel like you were an Ancient Roman struggling against the huns. The book is primarily about a corrupt Roman Empire who is on the verge of collapse, fight the barbaric Attila the Hun and his empire. This book uses quotes in latin that makes you feel like you are a true Roman and also it speaks to you in hunnic which is very intriguing. A boy named jonas travels with the Roman Embassy and a few Huns to Atilla the Hun where he will meet his greatest fear. This book truly makes me realize the cultural diffusion that went on during the time period. While the proper Roman Jonas eats dinner with these Barbaric people he learns how different these people are from himself and him and a Hun the same age as him develop a special bond and learn that even though they are from different, rival nations they can still be friends. This book includes dark plot twists including when the Roman Emperor kills his sister for attempting treason. The reason the book is called “The Scourge of God” is because Atilla was referred to as The Scourge of God because of how terrified people were to ever come across him. This book is very realistic and includes real epic Roman vs Hun battles while Jonas tries to make peace with Atilla before he crushes the Roman Empire. The books setting includes a variety of places including Gaul (modern day France), Hungary, Rome, Sicily and the Danube River. As Jonas travels by horse to meet Atilla the Hun he realizes the carnage that was happening past his cities walls. The huns and barbarian tribes were destroying whole towns of Romans and massacring thousands of people. This makes for another conflict which includes Jonas who has to race against time before the Eastern Roman Empire surrenders to Atilla. As i continue to read this book the plot becomes thicker and I can’t stop reading it. Sometimes history books are not boring and this book is one of them.
I am reading The Hunger Games, and I think that our books share a person versus person theme because both of our books have a lot of combat in them.

ReplyDeleteThe Hunger Games
by: Suzanne Collins
P.1-131
I like the way Suzanne Collins depicts the social class of the districts of the nation of Panem in the novel The Hunger Games. A good example of the division of the classes within the society is prior to the games when the author introduces the tributes of the different districts. In chapter 5 Collins describes the differences between the districts. The tributes in district one are introduced "in a chariot pulled by snow white horses...in tasteful tunics glittering with jewels...they are always favorites."(69) In the same chapter, the tributes of district twelve are introduced as miners usually that usually wear "some kind of coal miners get up", while this year they will be introduced as flaming coal (66). While these examples distinguish the difference in two districts, all 12 districts are separated into their own classes. I look forward to reading how Collins will break down the social classes in the rest of the novel.
I read The Hunger Games two years ago and I loved it. I don't know if you saw the first movie but I thought that the book did a better job on describing Katniss's thoughts and feelings than the movie did, which makes the story more interesting.

ReplyDeleteEleanor and Park
By: Rainbow Rowell
Pages: 1-138
I really like the way that the author uses irony throughout the book. The two main characters Eleanor and Park are very different from each other. Park is a normal kid that has lived in the Flats his whole life. He comes from a loving middle class family that support him and encourage him in doing what he likes. Eleanor is new to the school and from her first day was a target. Her family is lower class and her step dad doesn't like her one bit and wants more than anything to get rid of her again. The author uses irony because its hard to believe that two people so opposite could end up together, Eleanor even thinks they're opposites not right for each other for exsample on page 113 “‘Are you sure you want them to meet me?’ she asked. ‘yes,’ he said. ‘I want everyone to meet you. You’re my favorite person of all time.’ He kept making her feel like it was safe to smile. ‘I don’t want to embarrass you...’ she said.” Another way Rainbow Rowell uses irony is that Eleanor gets picked on by the kids on the bus and one of the leaders is a girl Tina. When Park was in sixth grade him and Tina used to date and its ironic because Tina hates Eleanor and now Eleanor and Park are dating, just more reason for Tina to pick on “Big Red” which is what Tina and her friends call Eleanor. So far this book is really good and I look forward to reading the rest of the book.
That book is very inserting it sounds a little like my book Catch Rider because Sidney the main character mom has a boyfriend and the boyfriend hates Sidney. Although the mom doesn't seem to care that the boyfriend hates Sidney. I think I will read that book because it seems very good.
DeleteThe way that your two characters are different is the same in my book too. In my book they were brought up in the same family but they turned out very different. one feel entitled to everything and the other feels that they have to work for every thing.
DeleteCall of the Wild:
ReplyDeleteInto the Primitive
Pages 1-89
The book, Call of the Wild by Jack London is actually a novel made up of three short stories. Each short story has a constant pattern of being from the first person point of view of a dog. The first short story is based some where in the western part of the United State in the 1800's and is about a wolf/husky mix named Buck that is living a dogs dream life. He is in an extremely nice house, his mastery is rich, Buck has his own servants and ect. But one day one of the servants didn't think he was brining in enough money so behind the masters back he issued a deal wish a foreign dog trading to steal and sell Buck. Buck is shipped through many states until he reaches Alaska. The reason they picked Alaska is because there's a gold rush going on and miners need dogs to pull sleds. When the freighted dog reaches his destination he is taught a lesson through a man with a club. Because Buck was kidnapped and is now with a stranger he is scared and attacks the man. Buck learns his first lesson that humans are the powerful species. Buck is then put on a team of other sled dogs from around the country who have all gone through that lesson as well. As the dogs make their journey they go through many dangerous events. Even though this book was written in 1905, the books action scenes and fighting is so detailed that I can just picture it all in my mind. Some of these scenes consist of the sled dogs defending the camp they're staying at from wild wolves. They author is very creative with the after math injures of the fights such as a bit off ears, cut open gash on the back leg and even an eye coming out. That may seem disgusting now but back then it was part of everyday life for these miners. This short story mainly focused on several life lessons; these lessons are that teamwork is always more affective than solo work, leadership takes immense amounts of courage and So far the first short story was very intersecting, fun and amusing. There are a lot of both pros and cons in this book but all in all it's depth reading. The pros are that I like historical books and I like action packed scenes with fighting which is very interesting with dogs. The pros are that the book is from 1905 so the English is hard to read sometimes, the font is very small and I don't like seeing or reading about dogs getting hurt.
That sounds like a good book I like how its from the point of view of a dog I think that's great and should add a lot of interesting scenarios and settings not possible in a traditional book.

When I started reading this book I didn't like it very much. I thought it was going to be about a girl running away from home. As I kept reading it gets more interesting. For example on page 8 a woman and man come find Carey and her sister Jenessa by their camper in the woods. The woman says "I'm here to take you home." At this part in the book people are wondering why this woman just said that. If I were Carey I would have taken my sister and ran away off. I wouldn't had believed the woman when she said my mom had left us and we had to go live with our dad who we haven't seen in 10 years. By page 96 Carey and Jenessa are getting used to living with their dad, stepmom and stepsister in Tennesse. They like having real beds (not cots like they were used to), delicious food and a real home. This book keeps getting more thrilling and exciting as I keep reading. I'm looking forward to see what happens next. I hope the book ends the way I want it to end.
This book Night Probe! by Clive Cussler is in my opinion a great novel. The setting in the beginning of the book is great because it alludes to part of the climax and I think that is a great use of allusion and setting put together. It has all the elements of a great mystery book a compelling protagonist, Dirk Pitt, and a well rounded antagonist. This novel starts with the united states in an energy crisis and their only hope is to get help from Canada and their water turbines in Niagara Falls which could provide power to 15 states. But the inciting action is when a U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander, Heidi Milligan uncovers a treaty between the United States and the UK to buy Canada for 150 million dollars “”Run on to anything useful?” asked Mildred.
ReplyDelete“A trail of smoke I didn't expect,” replied Heidi vaguely.”(Cussler 42). So her and Dirk Pitt go on an adventure to find the treaty. This book is an excellent example of a good mystery book and I would recommend it.

My book is closely related, not by author, but by plot to one of my favorite books, And Then There Were None. How the two plots are similar? Well they are based off the same murder-mystery type scenario with ten ‘players’, if you shall call them, of the game of murder, each holding something against the murderer. This is the basic plot line of both stories. Althought one of the main differences is the timeline of the each story. The murders in And Then There Were None tajes place in a couple of days, but the time line of deaths takes less than two days. So far 5 deaths have taken place in TEN in less than a day and the mysterious journal that the protagonist, Meg, has found and read suddenly ties all the murders so far together. The journal may or may noy be the key to stopping the murdere, but when Meg learns the killer may or may not have died three months ago does she decides to tell every one else about the journal and the connection between the murders. As she reads on and reaizes that the survivors are also mentioned in the journal.

This book caught my attention at my first glance of it. The cover of the book is a painting of a girl with shining blonde hair and cherry-colored lips. The cherry blossom on the side blends perfectly with her hair and dripping ink, creating a dreamy effect. So I picked up the book without any hesitation. Just as the cover, the book is also beautifully put together. The book is about an American teenage girl named Katie, who moves to Japan to live with her aunt after her mother dies. I think the cover of the book is a foreshadowing. The cherry blossom and the ink both symbolize the Japanese culture. The blending of Katie’s hair and ink indicates she would eventually fit in at her new school. I also think ink has another symbolic meaning and is very important to the book because it is the title and it’s mentioned in the book many times.
I really like how Sun uses first person P.O.V. in this book to describe Katie’s thoughts and feelings in detail. Katie feels lost and alone when she moves halfway across the world, “Their stares weren’t unfriendly—they just weren’t exactly sable. I guess that’s expected when you’re the only Amerika-jin in the school” (Sun 9). I feel related to her because I have been through the same phase when I moved here, when I didn’t know anyone and couldn’t speak the language. I think Sun’s purpose of using first person P.O.V is to garner empathy from the readers, to help them to have better understanding of what is going through Katie’s mind. I like this book and I look forward to read the rest of it and find out more about the meaning of ink.
Gym candy begins by talking about Mike Johnson, a former professional football player, and his son Mick Johnson. Mike Johnson taught his son how to play football in his back yard because he was a pro football player and he wanted his son Mick to follow in his foot steps. As Mick grows up during dinner time Mick and his dad would have several conversations about all his dads awards hanging on two of the four walls in the basement and how the other walls were for Mick’s awards. His dad said at dinner, “Those are yours, Mick. You’re going to fill them up with your own headlines some day”(5). Mick’s mom didn't like how his dad put football before everything, and his mom and dad would usually argue about it. His mom would say, “You don’t have to fill any walls with anything, you just be you”(6). Mick started kindergarten a year late so he would have an advantage over the other kids on the football team. While being on the football team Mick’s coach Mr. Knecht has been a pop warner coach for years but in the eighth grade his son, Joey Knecht quit playing, so Coach Knecht stopped being a coach. Mick then got a new coach Mr. Rooney a guy who played college football for Oregon State. Coach Rooney asked Mick if he was the kid who started kindergarten late to mess with Mick’s head. Then coach asked Mick was he Mike Johnson kid the guy who played for the Huskies, he said it was something to be ashamed of.

Allegiant
In the beginning of the book, the characters flashed back and forth between time in their old factions and the current time in their new factions. At this point, the rebellion was in full force and still trudging on. I thought that the flash backs between one to the other would lead to a termination of the rebellion. I really enjoyed the other two books, and the fact that they are written from only Tris’s point of view. But I came to like the way the author put this book in both Tris’s and Tobies’s point of view. The way the book was written made me realize how similar the two are. It also made me realize that not every thing lasts forever. I think that the title of the book was a really good choice. Titling the book allegiant, it almost makes you think that there will be an alliance with someone very important or even unexpected. But having the book written from both points of view makes you wonder why she (Victoria Roth) even needed to add Tobies’s point of view. It implies that one character might not make it in the end. It foreshadows a death from one. Tris feels almost betrayed when Christina and Uriah tell her that she should consider the possibility of Tobies leaving her, or, being killed. Page 10 “Tris, you rely to much on yourself and shut everyone else out except for…him. I can’t even remember the last time we had a girl to girl conversation. We are best friends and, if he leaves, you wont have anyone but yourself.” But as you read on, you learn about tris’s inner thoughts, and her fear of Tobies dyeing or leaving. But there are many obstacles to come, and she will soon learn to rely on onlt those he can absolutely trust.
Your book seems interesting! Can I borrow it sometime to read it? The book I read also has flashbacks in it. It makes the book more suspenseful!

ReplyDeleteForgive Me, Leonard Peacock
From the description of the book, I immediately thought that from the beginning of the book, I would read that the main character, Leonard Peacock would have killed someone, but he didn’t. The very first sentence of the book; “The P-38 WWII Nazi handgun looks comical lying on the breakfast table next to a bowl of oatmeal.”, I thought was very interesting. It wasn’t what I expected. Throughout the next 99 pages I read, Leonard is talking about how his life is difficult, his mom Linda is basically never there for him, and the closest relationship he has with anyone is his neighbor, who is close to dying. He skips school once in a while, dressing up in a formal outfit, taking a train to wherever he wants and will just follow someone, seeing what life would be like as an adult. Meanwhile, throughout some parts of the book, there are “letters from the future”. One of the letters was from someone named Commander E, who was trying to convince Leonard not to kill himself, and how this place called Outpost 37 is a utopia. He also gets another letter from the future from his wife, still saying just to “hold on a little longer”, and “you can make it”, also talking about how they have a daughter, and how he loves her so much. I like this book a lot so far because it switches from letters from the future, to the “real part of the book”. To me at least, I feel like this book could be partly non-fiction, and part fiction.
Our book is similar in that my main character's parents are never there for her either. Also my main characters boyfriend always helps her through any tough times that shes facing kind of like the letters do in your book. Your book sounds really interesting how it goes from present to future.

Author: John Ringo, Travis S. Taylor
Pages: Unclear- No Table Of Contents.

Post 01: As this is a rewrite I will begin here.
In this first post I will discuss the point of view of the novel. The PoV is an unusual form of third person limited- rather than just one person or a group all at once, the Point of view flips between several individuals- one chapter might focus on a ship's XO, the next on the head of the ship's USMC contingent. This shifting view might create a sense of disconnect, but I found it to be good for seeing a situation from all angles- from the view of someone close up, and that of somebody else at a distance, or from two perspectives of the same event. This unusual viewpoint creates an effect of '360 degree' view, where an event can be seen through many eyes.
Post 02:
This is my second post, despite being unsure of the clarity or length of the first one. This time I'm going to look at the tone of the book.
This novel has a very realistic tone- not unlike some realistic-fiction books I've read about the Navy or USMC, apart from the Sci-Fi content.
The best wording for the tone is either 'militaristic' or 'at-attention', a sense of clipped but strong, or a feeling of control. I've never been very good at describing tone but I guess this is as good as anything. The mood of the book, which I'm also going into here to pad the post, is also militaristic- a sense of patriotism that might put out some people but is relatively easy to take in stride- United States supremacy and all that. Still the rest of the world is treated well enough, if realistically.
I fully believe that I will be lucky to get a 15/25 on these posts but hope it will work better than the last (20%, really? I need to get my head in the game here, people!)

If I was Clay at this point I would have a giant mixture of emotions. I would fear for when I would come up on the tapes. I would be sad, for having to think about Hannah more. I would also be very confused of why I am on the tapes, Clay never did anything to Hannah that he can remember. He only saw her once at a party for a small amount of time and worked with her one summer. I wouldn't want to be Clay at this point because it would hurt having to listen to the reasons why someone you had feelings for and cared about committed suicide. I wouldn't wish that on my greatest enemy. All in all I really like this book so far, it is very intriguing.

In the novel Catch Rider by Jennifer H Lynn. This book can be very realistic because Sidney is a normal girl who has some problems with family. Sidney's dad had died in 2009. Sidney's loves horses and help out at two barns. One if the barns that Sidney works at is uncle Wayne is a owner of a barn. Another barn is called oak hill and at this barn there is a lot of rich girls who think that there are all that and they don’t treat Sidney very nice. Sidney's mom had started dating this Donald. Donald is a very selfish and does what he wants. Donald has never got along with Sidney and thought out the book there has been many fights between Sidney and Donald. (Quote)That I one of many fights that happen. Uncle Wayne is very supported of Sidney. During the novel the Catch rider by Jennifer H.Lyne. At the start of the book it was mostly really just boring with fights with Donald and dealing with school. As the book went on there was more conflicts. A example is that Sidney Uncle drank a lot and one time he had ended up in the hospital and Sidney didn't know if her uncle was going to make it. Sidney was working for oak hill barn and that is where is rich girl horses go and when she did a horse show and that was to see if she qualify for the Maclay and she didn't make it but then one girl had backed out and while she was leaving oak hill after she got fired a lady had pulled into the barn and gave Sidney the letter saying that she made it.” You Qualified for the Maclay Finals”(page 174) During the couple of chapter that this was all happening Donald had lots of fights with Sidney and this was a sign that there was going to be a major fight. Later on towards the end of the book Sidney came home for dinner one night and she didn't want to eat dinner and Donald got really mad and “he grabbed me by the arm and just about threw me into a chair." (Pg. 209). At that point things escalated for almost of the chapter and Donald ended up moving out. That following night Sidney and her mom went to sleep over at uncle Wayne's because there didn't feel safe sleeping at their own house.

Latter in the Traitor king, Darren and Jackie find a world of fairies and pixies, and realize that their family was responsible for the creation of this new world. They also discover that their family has been guarding this secret for a long time. This attracts some unwanted attention, so the Manannan family, being no stranger to magic, created magical wards to protect them from what was hunting them. But not every member of the family knew about them. So when on page 222, When Darren's mother was cleaning, she throw away the plants that were protecting the house saying “ they looked dead.” This was also forwarding to the fact that those plants not being at the Manannan house will have drastic consequences, when the thing that the ward kept away from the house got in and ransacked the house looking for the magic staff that would bring the two world together. I was intrigued with the way that the author could develop many characters to the point where I felt like I had known them for a long time. They all had backstories and little thing that made them unique. That made for very interesting interactions between different characters, which made the book better than I had expected. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy books. It is a good book

I like how the author, Suzanne Collins, makes the country of Panem into a modern Roman Empire. The Hunger games are similar to games held at the coliseum, and, the tributes are the gladiators. The tributes are forced to kill each-other, Katniss says "The bow and arrow is my weapon. But I've spent a fair amount of time throwing knives as well. Sometimes, if I've wounded an animal with an arrow, it's better to get a knife into it, too, before I approach it. I realize that if I want Haymitch's attention, this is my moment to make an impression. I yank the knife out of the table, get a grip on the blade, and then throw it into the wall across the room." (chapter 4) The hunger games turns innocent children into killers. When Katniss and Peeta are the last ones alive in the games, and they threaten suicide in order not to kill each-other. They are then allowed to have two winners in the 75th annual Hunger games. This is a very good book, and I highly recommend it.
This is exactly like the Roman Empire, if you are interested in the Roman empire, the book i am reading is entirely about them and how they fight Huns. This book seems good and the movies were fantastic.

Carey was laying low for most of the party until she ran into Ryan. Carey and Ryan talk for a while then Ryan asked for a kiss on the cheek from Carey but she 'missed' and kissed his lips. After that Ryan and Carey go outside and play in the snow and talk some more. After Ryan leave the party Carey goes around the house looking for Pixie, Carey finds her step sister in a room with some boy. Delaney yells at Carey to leave but chases after her, terrified Carey is going to tell her parents. When they both get home from the party Carey pulls Delaney into her room and asks why she hates her so much and that they should like each other because they're sisters. Delaney stops and thinks about how mean she has been and says it will stop. A few days later Carey and her dad go back to the camper Carey and her sister lived in for 10 years. Carey confesses to her dad that she shot a man. Carey explains why she did it. The man sexually abused her and her sister. Careys dad tells her it was self defense but they are going to have to report it to the police. The book ends with Carey asking her dad why he let her leave. Careys dad says "I looked everywhere for you. I put up fliers and I was even on the news a bunch of times!" I really like the book more then I thought I would. The author added a lot of suspense in the book which made me want to keep reading. It was a great book and I would recommended it to anyone that likes mysterious and suspenseful books.
The book, Gym candy, was a great book that I really enjoyed. It changed my perspective on how important sports can be to someone and the lengths they’ll go to improve their game. Once football starts for Mick there is a new freshman running back who could take Mick's starting spot. So when he goes back to Popeye's (his work out facility) he starts usuing the drug D-bol. Mick starts to get stronger and soon becomes one of the best players in the state. The side effects of the drug start to kick in and it causes him stop taking it. Once he gets back on the drug he decides its not working for him so he starts to take a bunch different kinds of steroids. Soon his friends start to wonder how he's getting so big and strong. Micks friends soon find the steroids he’s been taking and talk to Mick about them. Drew and Mick meet up. Drew is extremely mad at Mick, he tells Mick that he cheated, and that the entire team deserves nothing because of what Mick has done to himself and to the team. Drew tells Mick that he is going to Carlson, and that Carlson will know exactly what to do. That is when Mick pulls out a revolver and attempts to kill himself. Luckily he misses and the bullet only takes off a piece of his scalp. At the hospital Mick talks to a police officer and his trainer at Popeye's is arrested for dealing drugs. Mick then gets help at a facility where he stays for the next month. The book focuses around the rise and fall of Mick Johnson’s football career. the theme of the book is definitely substance abuse and how it can take an affect on someone’s life. In Mick's case, the substances are performance enhancers, or steroids.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a good book especially if you play sport, I might consider reading this. And it happens all the time in real life PED's in baseball are very common.
DeleteThat book seems great I love sports book. It is also a biography and like mines it talks about a persons ups and downs.

As the book goes on, the main character, Katie meets a guy named Tomohiro, the star of her school’s Kendo team. Tomohiro is a dynamic character whose character traits have changed over the course of the book. In the beginning of the book, Sun describes him as imperious, arrogant, callous, and irresponsible. Even before Katie meets him, the rumors about him have already been spread out around the school, saying that he has cheated on his girlfriend and dumped her after he got her pregnant. When Katie gets interested in Tomohiro, her friend Yuki warns her, “You don’t want to draw his attention, trust me. He has this cold stare. I dunno….he seems dangerous.”(Sun 10). When Katie first meets him, he shows his arrogance and impatience by ignoring her and demanding her to speak Japanese. When Katie starts to question him about his drawing that could move, he just walks away cruelly, “‘I don’t speak English,’ he said and slammed the door. It slid into the wall so hard it bounced back a little.”(Sun 19). When Katie and her friends run into Tomohiro in the school hallway, he does not even look at them, “Tomohiro didn’t bother to introduce his friend or say hello to us.”(Sun 41). But after Katie finds out that Tomo is connect to the kami (ancient gods) and has the power to make ink drawings come to life, Tomo’s character traits change as Katie and him get closer by sharing his secrets. He became this kind, caring, and responsible person that is completely different from the boy I read in the beginning of the book. He promises to keep Katie safe when he finds out that his power is out of control and the other kamis are trying to kill him, “’But I would never hurt you, Katie. I would never let it hurt you.”(Sun 134). He asks Katie to stay away from him because it is dangerous to be around him and risks his life to protect Katie. He even saves and forgives his friend, who tries to kill him.
I really like character development of Tomohiro. I think dynamic characters are more interesting than static characters since there might be some very unpredictable changes of their character traits. Tomohiro is also my favorite character in this book. I enjoy reading this book and I highly recommend it.
Eleanor & Park

As I continued to read this book it made me realize that anything can happen if you put in the time and effort. Eleanor’s step dad would never allow her to have a boyfriend ever. She has to say shes going to a friends house when shes really going to hang out at Parks house. If her step dad found out he would kick her out of the house and never allow her to see Park but they make it work. They always make an effort to see each other; they hang out almost everyday after school and on Saturdays. Another example that anything can happen is that Eleanor never thought that she could escape Richie’s house and his rules but Parks dad understands how it could be living in her house with him like on page 209 “look eleanor… I know your stepdad.” ”’I know your stepdad isn't an easy man to be around,’ Parks dad said finally stepping towards her. ‘And I’m just saying, you know, that if it’s easier to be over here, then you should be here.’” Her uncle wants Eleanor to stay with him over the summer, and at first she denies the offer. But when Richie finds out that she's been sneaking around he gets angry and ruins all her stuff; Eleanor decides to run away to her uncles a little early with the help of Park. The book made me realize that when times are hard there are people that can help you get through them and nothing is too hard to do accomplish is you try hard enough.
The Scourge of God
ReplyDeleteThis book has become amazing since I have last written about it, it has not only immersed me inside a deep plot with twists and turns but teaches me more about these 2 ancient nations battling for supremacy. Jonah finds himself against Atilla, after the Romans tell Edeco who is Attilas general, that they will pay him money to assassinate Atilla. Atilla finds this out and makes every roman walk back to Constantinople on their bare feet. Atilla also kills Jonahs little brother as a message to all romans. On page #96 Atilla says to Jonahs dad “I’m going to rip your sons teeth out and feed his intestines to my pigs for fun.” I think that this book has become increasingly interesting and I wonder each time I read it what will happen next. Jonah is now a hostage who can be slaughtered by Atilla any minute, and the rest of the Romans are in constantinople warning the others of the possible Hun attack. What I hope happens is Jonah finds a way to escape from Atilla before it is too late. I also hope that Rome defeats the Huns and possibly saves Jonah. Atilla is a barbarian who shows no mercy to his enemies and holds no regrets, he is ignorant, but is the most respected Hun in the world. His men are also some of the strongest and best fighters out there. In the book William Diedrich who is the author describes the Hun soldiers as brutes and juggernauts who are practically invincible if you don’t have a suprise attack against them, he describes the only way to defeat the huns is too flank and then retreat back into the forest. This book shows every detail of life thousands of years ago including the culture, economy, war and how the people have fun. Jonah spends nights with the Huns and they sing songs by the campfire for hours on hours for fun. Everything in this book is foreshadowing a battle between the two nations that I believe is inevitable. The name of this book is called The Scourge of God for a good reason, the Huns actually believed that Atilla was a god sent from the heavens to unite the Huns and remove evil from the planet. They listened to everything he said and would even kill themselves for this man, he was on top of the world. Rome on the other hand was struggling in the economy and had to pay Atilla compensation for planning an assassination attempt against him. To be honest if I were Jonas I would consider running for the hills because Atilla is about ready to kill him and then move on to Rome. Overall this book is amazing and any history lover would love a book that is fiction but with actual facts and events!

Well this is it. The second and last Blogger post entry thing. Anyway I’m going to have to place a huge *SPOILER ALERT* on this entry because it gives away the whole ending to the book. Now, I’m not one to just read random books, but I’m glad I read this one. I must give a standing ovation to Gretchen McNeil before start this entry. This book is well put together with a beautiful time line. Anyway, trying to fet back on track, the ending of this book really didn’t surprise me. It’s actually just like the end of And Then There Were None. Ironicly enough, the killer is the same in each book, in a way. The killers both pretened to be the fifth person killed, but unlike And Then There Were None the killer actually dies. Also the main character and her friend survive. The end of the bok ends with a simple scentence that could be used the beggining of a book.
The book i'm currently reading is the last Manchu an autoography by Henry Pu Yi. It's a book obviously about the last Manchu of China. It talks about his life in all its glory and short comings. Henry is pampers from birth and when China ends its Manchu dynasty. When this happens his life as it knows it end. This book was originally written and published in China then translated to English and surprisingly western civilization loved it most likely because it was so odd and interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe Gunslinger Chapter 1
ReplyDeleteIn the first chapter the Gunslinger is chasing a man in black. That is all the detail that is given about the man. The man in black has set up traps along the way for the gunslinger. the Gunslinger falls in love with a woman in a town that he ends up eradicating. The gunslinger is shown barely drinking and sometimes eating when truly necessary. He is a man who cant stop killing after he starts. He is proclaimed as the devil.
The Gunslinger Setting
ReplyDeleteIn the gunslinger the gunslinger is in a barren desert. The ground is a hardpan dry to the bone that any water that is on the ground gets soaked up instantly. any crops grown taste dreadful because of the low amount soil. any animal there it's meat taste like nothing and is super tough to chew.there is this grass called devil's weed that if you burn it and look into the flames you will eventually walk into the flames. there are towns but they don't have much most of the time. The people the live there are bitter and not to open to conversation and are sceptical of outsiders of the town.
